A new venture to create wooden surfboards
Since making and riding my first alaia, it has become an invaluable addition to any trip to the coast. Being so light and easy to transport I have scored many sessions where otherwise I would have gone without.
For those unfamiliar, the Alaia was the most common board surfed by the Ancient Hawaiians. They are only 3/4" to 1 1/2" thick with a noticeable bottom roll and a slight deck roll. The rocker is perfectly flat. The rails are squared off and usually about one inch thick. Rather than carving on the wave they tend to slide on the wave creating a very different style of wave riding. They can be ridden on many sizes and types of wave, lying down, prone or standing up they can zip along even the small waves at an awesome pace.
